Making Your Own Cleaning Products... Start your Own Business

Make your own cleaning products – start your own business – make a fortune and save a fortune.

Click here to discover the trade secrets of how to make your own cleaning products.

If you have a business which uses cleaning product formulas or detergents on a regular basis, you’re missing out on huge profits if you’re not making your own cleaning products.

making cleaning productsHow easy is it to make your own cleaning products?

Below is a sample recipe for a popular cleaning product, along with the method of manufacturing. This will give you an idea of how easy it is to manufacture detergents and cleaning products. You can easily make your own laundry detergent, make your own toilet cleaner, make window and glass cleaning spray  – make virtually any domestic, commercial or industrial cleaning product.

The actual ingredients have not been listed – this recipe is intended only to give you an overview of the manufacturing process. The AustraLab program provides the exact specifications of ingredients and the accompanying safety procedures for you to make your own professional quality cleaning products.

The AustraLab recipes for cleaning products and detergent formulas are the same as those used by major manufacturing companies. They are intended for those wanting to start a serious, high-profit business – they are not home-crafter “make your own cleaning products recipes”. Home crafter recipes for cleaning products are not suitable for retail sale – click here and here and here to read my posts about the problems with home-made detergent recipes.

Manufacturing procedure – Phase A:

  1. Pour the water into a mixing drum.
  2. Add the solvent and chelating agent and mix well.
  3. Add the emulsifier and mix well.
  4. Add the surfactant and mix well.
  5. Add the stabilizer and mix well.
  6. Add the dye and fragrance and mix well.
Phase B:
  1. In a separate container, pour in the water and add the thickening agent.
  2. Slowly add the thickening mixture to the main Phase A mixture until the desired thickness is achieved.
Your product is ready – you just need to test for pH (the procedure for testing and adjusting pH is covered fully in the AustraLab manuals).

This is the basic procedure to make your own cleaning products – from dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent, to window/glass cleaner, disinfectants, degreasers, hand sanitizers, general purpose sprays, etc and even commercial and industrial cleaning products.

You can make your own cleaning products with essential oils and start an aromatherapy designer cleaning products business. Here, the potential for creativity and innovation is unlimited – try eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil for their antiseptic properties, citrus oils for removing odors …

Some cleaning product recipes require only one phase in the mixing process, others require more. But the instructions are easy to follow – you really don’t need any qualifications in science or chemistry to make top quality cleaning products and detergents.

You’ll notice this formula contains over 75% water – hence the huge profit margins to be made when you make your own cleaning products, toiletries and cosmetics.

The most important factors to remember to ensure the success of the products you make:

  1. Always weigh your ingredients carefully and accurately – no guesswork!
  2. Always add ingredients exactly in the order provided in the instructions.
  3. Always take appropriate safety precautions when you make your own cleaning products – wear gloves, protective apron, mask, etc. The AustraLab manuals comprehensively cover all required safety measures for the manufacturing process. Making detergents is quite safe – just follow the common-sense guidelines.

You don’t need complicated mixing machinery – large drums or barrels will do just fine. When you become established, you can always upgrade your equipment. I started out with basic equipment just like this, as have many other big manufacturers. You’ll often find makeshift mixing containers in the back rooms of big companies – they’re still used frequently for experiments and small batches.

If you’re a savvy operator, you can make your own cleaning products for use within your own business, start a wholesale cleaning products business, as well as retailing your products to your existing customer base.

This is an ideal side business for anyone who provides home, office, commercial, industrial or janitorial cleaning services. When you start to make your own cleaning products, you probably won’t believe how much of your profits you have been giving to your cleaning product suppliers. Make a larger batch, label your products and sell them to other cleaning companies, wholesalers, retailers, etc.

There’s virtually no limit to who will buy your detergents and cleaning products. Apart from households, just every business on the planet uses cleaning products – from shops and offices to industry – transport, health, food, manufacturing …

Private label manufacturing is a rapidly growing business sector – making private label cleaning products and detergents (and private label hair care) is still largely untapped, and the potential is enormous.

  1. Very interesting article, has given me the confidence I need to know that I can make my own detergents. I use a lot of cleaning products in my business and I know that the manufacturer I buy them from has a very profitable business so I think its time for me to expand in this direction.
Just one question: Do you give the chemical name for the ingredients you use in your formulations? I have seen some cleaning product recipes that use a perticular companys mixture of ingredients and I dont know what these are or whether I can get them in my country. I would prefer to know exactly what I am using in my products. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    1. Hey Bob,
Thanks for taking the time – that’s a great question.
All my formulations provide the actual chemical or cosmetic ingredients by their actual name – no brand names or such.
I always advocate the need to be as much in control of your business as possible.
If you’re using proprietary ingredient blends to make your own cleaning products (or toiletries, cosmetics, etc) and you don’t know how to replace or replicate these ingredients, you can find yourself at the mercy of your suppliers. These blended ingredient bases are made by some suppliers for precisely that reason – to keep you returning exclusively to them in order to be able to make your products.
These blends are often over-priced – you can shop around and get the individual ingredients and blend them yourself for much less. Also, if your supplier has shipping or delivery delays, or any other problems, and you can’t get supply – what does that mean for your business if you have orders to fulfill?
Suppliers sometimes change the formulations of these blends – that means your products will also change – sometimes this will not be noticeable in the end product, but sometimes it will.
And what if your supplier decides to completely discontinue that particular blend of ingredients? You’ll need to find a suitable replacement (fast).
All these are issues I have seen happen over the years. For that reason, I rarely (if ever) use proprietary trademark blends. By using the raw base ingredients, you will always maintain maximum control (and profits) in your business. You can change suppliers at anytime if you don’t like their service or their prices.
The AustraLab formulations use only raw ingredients by their chemical name.
P.S. Don’t let that “chemical” word scare you – water is a chemical, as is the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the shirt we wear (whether it’s organic cotton, pure silk or spun polyester, it’s still a chemical).

The AustraLab program includes formulations for making toilet cleaner and liquid handwash. These products cannot be made with the same ingredients, they require different compounds. I hope that answers your query.
