Offline vs. Online ... Start your Own Business

Making money online … is it really for you?

Is an online business really as profitable – or as stable and secure – as an offline bricks-and-mortar enterprise?

You may have heard that making money on the internet is not as easy as some of the “gurus” claim – and for many it’s becoming more competitive, more complicated, less profitable and less enjoyable everyday. Seems every second man, woman and child has a website, wiki or blog, and is competing for a speck in cyberspace – yet statistics claim that less than 3% are able to earn a living from it.

It’s something many of the “gurus” forget to mention when you attend their $5000 a day “making money online” seminars.

Bobby Walker, of the eminent internet marketing duo AdeelBobby.com, blogged about spending $60,000 on vending machines, in order to diversify his financial interests.

He wrote:

“I sat down a couple weeks ago and thought about my future for the next 10 years. Turning 40 made me realize that my time here is growing short and I need to make sure I secure a future for my wife and kids, so they can have the things they need later in life…

“So I started looking at a new business opportunity offline

“I found a really good company that sells vending machines … to make a long story short, I bought 20 of their snack/drink combo machines. I spent over $60,000 directly out of my pocket to purchase these machines …”

“I think it’s wise to spread your money into different investments, so that you have the best chance to get everything you want out of life … I choose to put my money in other things, so if something does happen, I’m protected …”

He also noted another aspect of internet marketing that is seldom mentioned:

“I came from an offline business in the service industry … and I really miss it!

“I more miss the human interaction than anything else … so for that reason, I’ve decided to start this vending business to make my life more fulfilling. I’m not the type of guy that can sit behind my PC for hours per day everyday and feel good about it, no matter how much money I’m making … time to do something that makes me feel good about myself.”

Bobby Walker is not the only internet marketer to focus time, energy and cash in offline ventures.

Online marketer Bertil Jenner, has hundreds – maybe thousands – of websites and seems to earn a tidy income from them. But in his internet marketing guide, The FatCat Blueprint, he confesses:

“My biggest source of income is my offline business.”

During his early days of making money online, he invested most of his earnings into offline ventures.

He writes: “One offline business was involved with real estate and the other in the health industry. The health industry business is my biggest earner amongst all of my business activities.”

His advice:

“Diversify … For financial security, nothing beats having multiple streams of income.”

  1. I have to agree very much with what you have said here. I gave up internet marketing after about three years. I couldn’t make enough to justify the time I was spending on it. I also found it very isolating staring at a computer screen all day, i really missed mixing with people. I like the ideas you have expressed here with your program, it appeals to me very much. I will be back in touch with you soon.

    1. Howdy boxer,
Welcome to my blog and thanks for your input.
I admit I now feel I have the best of both worlds – blogging and industry consulting give me online time and plenty of people contact.

  2. Too true! I’ve been starting at a computer screen for 12 months now, not making money money and so BORED!!! No one to talk to all day! Just when I was starting to get the hang of things and make a few dollars, along came G–gle and changed all the rules all over again, now I feel like I am back to where I started. Maybe it was a good thing as it made me realize its not what I really want to do anyway, and looking for other things brought me to your blog, and I think this something I could get my teeth into. I always wanted to make cosmetics and makeup since I was a little girl so now I think it’s time to do something I actually like and make some money! I think your concept is a winner!

    1. Thanks for joining the conversation, Rebekah. Working full time online can sound good in theory – but the reality is often very different. Learning how to make makeup, make cosmetics, mineral makeup, make shampoo and make detergent – it’s a great way to meet many interesting people, make new friends, rub shoulders with the rich & famous, and boost your own social profile.
